Spanish authorities on Tuesday said 89 people are missing in the eastern Valencia region following the devastating flash floods that killed more than 200 people last week. It is the first official figure of the missing to be released by authorities,

Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia were berated by angry residents in a visit on Sunday to the hard hit area of Paiporta. Letizia, in particular, seemed shaken by the shouts of “murderers” as mud was flung at the royal couple. Prime Minister Sanchez was also there but was quickly whisked away by security.

Emergency workers continued the search for victims of last week’s flash floods, while a national debate raged over who was to blame for the catastrophe.
