Maura Healey visited Nibi the beaver at Newhouse Wildlife Rescue after announcing that the beaver could stay at the rescue center she has known since she was a baby.

Governor Maura Healey issued Nibi a permit allowing the 2-year-old beaver who captured the hearts of people across the country to stay at the rehabilitation where she’s lived most of her life.

Following public outcry and involvement from Massachusetts’ highest office, Nibi an orphaned 2-year-old beaver will not be sent back into the wild and allowed to become an educational beaver.

Turns out, Nibi the beaver won't have to learn how to live in the wild on its own after all. The beloved animal, which has been in the care of Massachusetts' Newhouse Wildlife Rescue for two years, started the week with an eviction order — the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife said it would have to go back to the wild on Tuesday.

Nibi, a two-year-old beaver whose journey has captured the attention of Americans, will be allowed to stay at a wildlife rescue centre after Massachusetts's governor intervened in the matter. Nibi - who was raised in captivity - became the subject of a legal case over whether she would have to be released into the wild or could remain at the Newhouse Wildlife Rescue.
