A “healthy” baby with a “strong grip” was born to a critically endangered gorilla at Georgia’s Zoo Atlanta, officials said. Kambera, a Western lowland gorilla at the zoo, welcomed a baby girl on Nov. 13, marking the 26th gorilla born at the zoo, officials said in a statement posted on Zoo Atlanta’s official Facebook page.

The Zoo said there had been some warning signs in the early days of the baby gorilla's life, but there had also been signs of optimism, too.

Zoo officials say the newborn initially had trouble nursing with her mother, but that changed before the baby was found dead.
